Basavaraj Bommai elected chief minister of Karnataka
Basavaraj Bommai was elected as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka at the BJP Legislature Party meeting in Bengaluru on Tuesday (July 27) evening. He will take the oath of office on Wednesday. Earlier, on Monday, BS Yediyurappa had quit the chief minister's post on completion of two years of his tenure.
Union minister and BJP's observer for the party's Karnataka legislature body meeting, G Kishan Reddy tweeted, "BJP Karnataka Legislature Party in Bangalore this evening unanimously elected BS Bommai Avaru as its leader and next Chief Minister of Karnataka in the presence of senior central and state leadership."
Caretaker Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said, “We have unanimously elected Basavaraj S Bommai as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support. He (Bommai) will work hard under his leadership."
Before the legislature party meeting, the BJP's 'observers' had met several state leaders and BS Yediyurappa had reached the hotel to attend the legislature party meeting along with Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Dharmendra Pradhan. Ministers Basavaraj Bommai and Jagadish Shettar had also met state BJP observers and Union ministers in Bengaluru in the evening.
