Rs 8,172 crore Bengaluru - Mysuru expressway, which is slated to reduce travel time between the major cities of Karnataka to less than 90 minutes from the current three hours, is on track to meet its revised deadline of October 2022.

According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials, the phase-1 from Bengaluru to Nidaghatta in Mandya district will be ready by May 2022, the second phase from Nidaghatta to Mysuru will be complete by September.

Though the shortage of workforce and material amid the Covid-19 pandemic has repeatedly pushed deadlines of this 117 km long project in the last two years, land acquisition is no longer an issue.

“Around 85 per cent of the elevated section from RR Medical College to Christ University in the Bengaluru-Nidaghatta section is completed and three bridges are ready, while the fourth was being readied,” he said.

“The foundation and casting work for the 3.38 km elevated highway in Nidaghatta to Mysuru section has been completed. Erection of segments and wings are in progress, and we can say that 78 per cent of the overall work is complete,” he explained.

The two sections, 56 km from Bengaluru to Nidagatta and 61 km from Nidagatta to Mysore, of 10-lane Bengaluru - Mysuru expressway, are being built by Bhopal-based Dilip Buildcon.
