Having already completed a pilot project in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, the Government plans to link the e-courts with land records and registration databases across the country, reports The Economic Times.

The manifestation of the plan will help bonafide buyers know if a land they plan to buy is under legal dispute. The Government thinks that this will reduce dubious transactions, bring down clogging of the court's system, and help in dispute containment.

DoJ's letter also emphasised that registering property efficiently and transparently is one of the parameters evaluated by the World Bank for assessing the performance of 190 global economies on the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) Index.

DoJ added that the Department of Land Resources (DoLR), the nodal department responsible for registering property index, has earned only 3.5 marks against a total weightage of 13 marks for the quality of the Land Administration Index.
