Locked in a tough electoral fight against her former lieutenant turned rival Suvendu Adhikari in the high-profile Nandigram seat in Purba Medinipur district of the state, West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced that she would be stationing herself in the constituency for five days beginning today (Mar 28).

Addressing at a rally in West Midnapore’s Pingla on Saturday (Mar 27), Mamata claimed that she is doing to defeat the "evil designs" by “Mir Jafars” in Nandigram.

“Starting tomorrow (Sunday) I will be staying in Nandigram... I am curious to see the antics of these Mir Jafars (Adhikari and associates),” she said
Nandigram will vote on April 2.

On Saturday(Mar 27), Bharatiya Janata Party released an audio tape in which TMC supremo is heard pleading to Suvendu Adhikari's aide Pralay Pal asking for his assistance in Nandigram.

In the audio conversation, Pal is heard saying “During the Left rule when CPI(M) was torturing the people of Nandigram, it was the Adhikari family who stood by us. I have never gone against them and I will never dare to.”

Suvendu and the Adhikari family hold considerable sway in Nandigram. He is widely credited with organising the Mamata-led agitation against chemical hub planned by the then Buddhadeb Bhattacharya government.
