The central government has sanctioned Rs 180 crore for the restoration of the railway network damaged by floods and landslides in the Dima Hasao district of Assam.

Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed that the Union Railways Ministry has sanctioned Rs 180 crore for the restoration of the railway network in state.

The move comes after Sarma held a meeting with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Sunday.

"Repairing the damaged portions of the vital rail link will restore connectivity between Barak and Brahmaputra valleys of Assam and reconnect Tripura, Mizoram and parts of Manipur with the rest of the rest the country," added Sarma.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) had suspended all trains through the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section to Barak Valley, Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur due to the damage caused at multiple locations on the railway tracks by the recent floods in the state.

At least 24 people have lost their lives due to the floods and landslides in Assam so far in 2022.
