In a major development, the Centre has approved an additional budgetary outlay of Rs 1,691 crore for the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for highway works in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Uttarakhand for 2020-21, reports Times of India.
Out of the total funds approved, Rs 1,351.1 crore has been sanctioned for building of roads in J&K while Rs 340 crore have been sanctioned for road-building in Uttarakhand.
The development comes after government's National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) which is engaged in building, maintenance and upgradation of national highways and strategic roads had announced a hike in remuneration of its personnel working in difficult areas.
