Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the governming is working towards creating a unique identification (ID) cards for farmers across the country.
"Government of India is in the process for creating unique ID of farmers of the country. The unique identifier of the farmer will link the farmer profile with all the agricultural schemes, which have been availed by the farmer," Tomar said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.
The ID will also help to identify the help in farmer’s verification through e-Know Your Farmer (e-KYF) which would eliminate the need of re-submitting physical documents to different departments for availing benefit(s) under different schemes.
Further, the unique ID will ensure ease in accessing the damage to crops due to extreme weather conditions.
The minister also informed that 11.64 crore farmers have been registered under the PM-KISAN scheme as of 9th December, reports LiveMint.
