In a big win for Tamil Nadu, Gautam Adani led Adani group is set to invest Rs 2,500 crore to set up a hyper-scale data centre in the State capital of Chennai, reports Hindu Businessline.

Called 'Adani Chennai-1', the project's foundation stone was laid last week. The unit would come up in Siruseri IT Park, which is also home to IT sector majors like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Cognizant and FSS Limited.

It should be noted that Chennai is already home to several smaller data centres with investment commitments of over Rs 8,300 crore from the likes of Niranjan Hiranandani's Yotta Infrastructure, HDCI Data Centre Holdings and Singapore-based ST Tele Media. The new investment commitment by Adani takes the figure to around Rs 10,000 crore.

Chennai has been successful in attracting several data centre setups, given its three undersea cable landing stations, sound optic fibre network connectivity and geographic proximity to key Asian destinations.
