Chinese President Xi Jinping
China's representative cried foul at a meeting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), ruing over the restrictions imposed on TikTok and WeChat by the United States (US), calling the development a violation of WTO's rules, reports Economic Times.
At a closed-door WTO meeting held on Friday (5 October), Chinese representative called the US' decision inconsistent with the WTO rules, and complained that it is restricting cross-border trading services and violating the basic principles and objectives of the multilateral trading system.
Meanwhile, in the same meeting, the representative of the US defended its actions on the grounds of mitigating national security risks.
It should be noted that China's statement at the meeting will have no consequences on its own, though it could launch an official complaint about the issue to the WTO.
