The Congress party is convinced that former Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh is aiming to take a share of Hindu voters in urban constituencies to hurt Congress’ chances in the assembly elections in the state next year.

Captain Singh will be launching his own party and could even possibly ally with the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).

Sources from the Congress quoted by the Times of India (TOI) believe that the former CM is targeting polarising the Hindu voters against the Sonia Gandhi-led party.

Many believe that Captain will be provoking the demographic situation against Congress and will also raise the threats related to the security situation as well as Pakistan by highlighting Navjot Singh Sidhu’s closeness to the Pakistani army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Congress too will be assuring its urban voters of its ‘mainstream leanings’ to neutralise the former CM’s plan of action.

On the other hand, it is reported that Captain cannot think of allying with the BJP without finding a resolution to the ongoing long-drawn farmer protests.
