Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, Ram Vilas Paswan on Wednesday (4 September) banned the use of single-use plastic in his ministry and all the PSUs under it including Food Corporation India (FCI), reports Asian News International (ANI).
Paswan has decreed that all single-use plastic products will be completely banned in his ministry and its PSUs from 15 September onward. The officials have been given time till then to make alternative arrangements.
The move by Paswan comes after Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on 15 August had urged all Indians to curb the usage of single-use plastic.
In his August month's radio outreach called Mann ki Baat, PM Modi had said that the nation would initiate a dedicated movement in this regard from 2 October when India celebrates 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
