Prime Minister Narendra Modi has deactivated his account on Chinese microbloggin website 'Weibo'.

The development comes days after the Modi government on Monday (29 June) banned 59 Chinese apps including the popular short video sharing app TikTok, data sharing app ShareIt, UC Browser, scanning app CamScanner among others over national security concerns.

It should be noted that global social media websites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are banned in China.

According to Journalist Aditya Raj Kaul, the process for deleting the account took some time as the quitting process for VIP accounts on Weibo is very complicated.

The account was deleted by the Chinese social media site on the request of Indian embassy in Beijing.
