The Delhi High Court has summoned the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in a defamation lawsuit filed against its two-part documentary titled 'India: The Modi Question'.

The suit claims that the documentary tarnished the reputation of India, its judiciary, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Justice Sachin Datta has sent a notice to both the BBC (UK) and BBC (India) regarding the suit filed by Justice for Trial, a Gujarat-based NGO.

Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the NGO, said the defamation suit against the BBC concerns their documentary that defamed India, the system, and the judiciary.

The documentary allegedly makes insinuations about the prime minister, which the plaintiff argues are defamatory and tarnishes the country's reputation.

The high court ordered the issue of notice to respondents through all modes and scheduled further hearing on 15 September.
