Delhi Records Over 5000 Dengue Cases In November: Report

Delhi has witnessed a surge in dengue infections this year as around 7128 cases of the same have been reported in 2021 so far. Moreover, over 5000 dengue cases have been recorded in November itself.
This is apparently the highest case count in Delhi since the dengue and chikungunya outbreak in the capital in 2015.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) noted that more than 1800 dengue cases were reported in the previous week itself.
However, no new death due to dengue was recorded by the corporations this week.
Apparently, high numbers of dengue cases are generally reported during October and November as mosquitoes tend to breed in clean water after the temperatures fall down following the monsoon season.
However, the cases then reduce in December and the breeding of carrier mosquitoes is disrupted due to further dip in temperatures.
MCD’s data suggests that around 2.6 cumulative visits have been made to homes by the domestic breeding checker to check the presence of breeding amongst mosquitoes.
Breeding was found in 1.85 lakh houses and subsequently the corporation sent out legal notices to 1.4 lakh people as well.
