French President Emmanuel Macron in a chilling warning to Islamists in the country has said that "Fear is going to change sides" and also asserted that Islamists should not be able to sleep easy in the country, Financial Times has reported.
"Islamists should not be able to sleep easy in our country...Fear is going to change sides", Macron has been quoted as saying.
Following the beheading of history-geography teacher Samuel Paty, France has started a crackdown on radical Islamists in the country.
Macron made this statement following an emergency inner cabinet meeting at the Elysée Palace which was also attended by Prime Minister Jean Castex and anti-terrorism prosecutor Jean-François Ricard.
"He was killed precisely because he incarnated the Republic", Macron said. "He was killed because the Islamists want our future. They know that with quiet heroes like him, they will never have it."
Paty was beheaded by an 18-year-old radical Islamist with Chechen roots for showing cartoons of Prophet Mohammed during a class on freedom of expression. Following the class the father of one of the students in the class is said to have issued a fatwa against Paty.
The father identified as Brahim Chnina had also posted three videos on social media calling for action against Paty.
Paty has been posthumously awarded the Legion d'Honneur - France's highest honour for his bravery.
