Global Covid-19 Cases Rise To 1.38 Crore With Over 5.9 Lakh Deaths; US Case Count Nears 36 Lakh

The total number of Covid-19 cases has surged to over 1.38 crore globally, while the deaths have surpassed 5.90 lakh mark, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Friday (17 July) evening, the total number of cases stood at 13,830,933 while the fatalities increased to 590,401, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

As many as 7,733,051 people have recovered from the disease globally, the CSSE data showed.

With 3,576,430 cases and 138,360 deaths, the US continues with the world's highest number of COVID-19 infections and fatalities, according to the CSSE.


In terms of cases, India ranks third (1,003,832), and was followed by Russia (758,001), Peru (333,867), South Africa (324,221), Mexico (324,041), Chile (323,698), the UK (294,116), Iran (267,061), Pakistan (259,999), Spain (258,855), Italy (243,736), Saudi Arabia (243,238), Turkey (216,873), France (211,102), and Germany (201,840).

Bangladesh (199,357), Colombia (165,169), Canada (111,144), Argetina (114,783) and Qatar (105,477) are some of the other countries with more than 1 lakh Covid-19 cases, the CSSE figures showed.

The countries that reported over 10,000 deaths are the UK (45,204), Mexico (37,574), Italy (35,017), France (30,141), Spain (28,416), India (25,602), Iran (13,608), Peru (12,615) and Russia (12,106).
