The Central government on Thursday (9 October) permitted the export of Bangalore Rose onions and Krishnapuram onions upto 10,000 metric tonnes each till 31 March next year, reports ANI.
However, export of the two varieties of onion has been allowed on the the condition that the onions will be exported only through the Chennai port.
Announcing the government's decision, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the move will empower farmers and increase their income.
"Empowering farmers and increasing their income, Government permits export of Bangalore Rose Onions and Krishnapuram Onions of up to 10,000 MT each," Goyal tweeted.
