In a positive development, the State of Goa has become the first in the nation to ensure cent per cent water connections in the rural areas covering a total of 2.3 lakh households, reports News18.

The development was made public by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, which said that Goa has earned itself the distinction of becoming the first 'Har Ghar Jal' State with 100 per cent functional household tap connections (FHTCs). Of the total, 1.65 lakh households are located in North Goa and 98,000 households in South Goa, all spread across 191 gram panchayats.

Back in June, Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had lauded Goa Chief Minister (CM) Pramod Sawant expressing the State's annual action plan to ensure 100 per cent tap water connections in the rural areas by 2021.

This deadline was much in advance of the Jal Jeevan Mission's aim to ensure piped water connectivity to all households of the nation by 2024.
