Mob attacking the temple (Pic Via Twitter)
A Muslim mob attacked a Hindu temple on Wednesday (4 August) and burned down parts of it as well as damaged the Murtis of Hindu gods.
A video of the incident was posted on social media by Pakistani Hindu community leader and ruling PTI MP Ramesh Kumar Vankwani. In the video, the Muslim mob could be seen desecrating the murtis of the Hindu gods while raising slogans of "Nara-e-Takbeer" and "Allah hu Akbar".
In a series of tweets, Vankwani said, "Attack on Hindu temple at Bhong City District Rahimyar Khan Punjab. Situation was tense since yesterday. Negligence by local police is very shameful. Chief Justice is requested to take action".
"Strict action must be taken against those who attacked Hindu temple at Bhong. In contact with higher authorities. Situation is very critical right now" Vankwani said.
"Chief Justice is requested to take action, please. Interfaith harmony is need of time," he said.
The mob alleged the boy committed blasphemy, an act punishable by the death sentence in Pakistan. Mere accusations of blasphemy have incited mobs to violence and deadly attacks in the past, The Washington Post reported.
The mob was so charged that the local police was unable to prevent the criminal act and the Pakistan Rangers were called In to control the situation.
