India Likely To Banish Chinese Vendors From 5G Trials; Home Ministry Led Committee To Take Final Call

Hardening its stance against the Chinese vendors of 5G telecommunications equipment like Huawei and ZTE, the Government has empowered a committee led by Union Ministry of Home Affairs to take the final call on the matter, reports Financial Express.

The development gains significance as it comes in a follow up to the Government's earlier permission to Indian telecom operators to partner with Chinese vendors to apply for 5G trials in India.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that most of the telecom operators in India have applied for conducting 5G trials with multiple vendors. Reliance Jio has applied with European vendors Nokia and Ericsson, Korean vendor Samsung and Chinese vendor Huawei. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have applied with Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei and ZTE. Meanwhile, BSNL and MTNL have applied with ZTE and Nokia.
