Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad yesterday (16 October) shared that the Indian courts spread across the country virtually heard as many as 25 lakh cases during the COVID-19 triggered restrictions, reports Times of India.
Of the 25 lakh cases heard virtually by courts across the nation, as many as 9,000 cases were heard by the Supreme Court alone. The development was shared by Prasad while he was hosting a virtual summit of the ministers of justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member nations.
The meeting was attended by the ministers from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and China. Meanwhile, Pakistan was represented at the meeting by an authorised official from the nation's Ministry of Law and Justice.
