Indian Railways has approved the proposal of Maharashtra Principal Secretary to transport liquid medical oxygen in cryogenic tankers via its roll-on-roll-off initiative throughout the country.
The national transporter revealed that five hours of free time will be allotted at the point of loading and unloading whereas the customers will have to be in-charge of securing trucks through locks or lashing.
Moreover, the Ministry of Railways mentioned that the rules rolled out in Red Tariff No. 20 for the purpose of moving liquid oxygen will have to be adhered to.
The Covid-19 situation in Maharashtra has been worsening over time as the state reported 67,123 cases and 419 deaths on Friday.
In fact, seven people had succumbed to the pandemic due to shortage in supply of oxygen in a hospital in Nalasopara earlier this week. Later on, it emerged that industrialist Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries will deliver 100 metric tonne (MT) oxygen to Maharashtra from its plant in Jamnagar.
