With the administration of over 78 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage surpassed the 70 crore mark on Wednesday (8 September).

According to the Union Health Ministry, as many as 78,47,625 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours through 72,81,305 sessions across the country.

Over 70.75 Crore (70,75,43,018) vaccine doses have been administered in India since the Covid-19 vaccination drive began on 16 January this year.


Further, in the 45-59 age group, 13.91 crore (13,91,24,251) beneficiaries have been administered the first dose, and 5.97 crore (5,97,18,690) beneficiaries have received the second dose.

Meanwhile, over 9.08 crore (9,08,69,866) doses as the first and 4.77 crore (4,77,05,706) as the second dose have been administered in the age group of 60 and above years.
