In a big boost for India's ambitious renewable energy push, the country saw solar energy generation capacity jump by 12-fold to 2.488 Gigawatts (GWs) during the April-June period in 2021 compared to the same period a year ago, reports Economic Times.
According to Mercom India Research, the solar capacity addition in India in the said span was 19 per cent higher than the 2.09 GWs of capacity installed in the January-March period of 2021.
Also, cumulatively, in January-June 2021, India saw the installation of 4.578 GWs of capacity. This is significantly higher than 3.2 GWs of solar capacity installed in all of 2020 in India, the research firm said in its report titled "Q2 2021 India Solar Market Update".
