ISRO Chief K Sivan Gets One Year Extension As Secretary Of Department Of Space

The Centre on Wednesday (30 December) extended the services of Space Secretary and Space Commission Chairman K Sivan by one year.

Sivan is also Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of tenure of Sivan for a period of one year beyond 14 January 2021, i.e. upto 14 January 2022 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.


He has specialisation in Aerospace engineering, Space Transportation Systems Engineering, Launch vehicle and mission design, control & guidance design and mission simulation software design, Mission synthesis, simulation, analysis and validation of flight systems.

The 63-year-old ISRO chief is the chief architect of 6D trajectory simulation software, SITARA, which is the backbone of the real-time and non-real-time trajectory simulations of all ISRO launch vehicles. He also developed and implemented an innovative 'day-of launch wind biasing strategy' that enables rocket launch on any day, under varied weather and wind conditions.
