In a move to ease the process of lodging property-related grievances for migrant Kashmiris, comprising largely of Hindus who were pushed to leave the Valley in the 1990s, the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)’s administration has activated an online portal, reports Times of India.

The portal is hosted on the website of J&K’s relief commissioner for migrants. The issues which can be filed include correction of property records, demarcation and removal of encroachments, trespassing and alienation by way of fraud or distress and more such subjects.

Furthermore, all the District Magistrates will be required to dispose of the grievances received through the said portal in a fixed timeframe under the Public Services Guarantee Act, 2011.

It should be noted that as per the report of the relief office set up in 1990 by the Government of J&K, there are as many as 44,167 registered Kashmiri migrant families of which 39,782 are Hindu migrant families.
