In a big thrust for the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and the creation of large scale charging infrastructure, Karnataka is likely to soon come out with regulatory measures to make it mandatory for high-rise buildings, metro stations, malls, IT parks and apartments to have EV charging infrastructure, reports Livemint.

Sharing that the State would come out with regulatory measures in this regard, Karnataka's Deputy (Dy) Chief Minister (CM) CN Ashwath Narayan also emphasised that the State Government is also aiming to replace half of all its vehicles with EVs in the coming two to three years.

Dy CM Narayan also noted that EVs can deliver practicality, sustainability, safety, and affordability characteristics and also added that the demand from EVs could greatly improve the utilisation factor of underutilised power plants given India is a power surplus nation.
