‘Learning Assamese Till Class 10 To Be Made Compulsory For Assam Government Jobs’: State Education Minister

In a major decision, the Government of Assam has decided to make it mandatory for people to study Assamese till Class 10 to be eligibile for State Government job opportunities, reports Economic Times.

Making the decision public, State's Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the State Government would make Assamese a compulsory subject in all schools of the State. To achieve the same, a bill would be tabled in the Assembly during the Budget Session.


In Barak Valley region and BTAD, similar language compulsion rule will be brought with Bengali and Bodo languages respectively, Sarma informed the mediapersons on Saturday (25 January).

Meanwhile, making the decisions public, Sarma highlighted that as a result of the decisions, his own two children would not be eligible for any Assam Government job opportunities as they study outside the State and have not studied the said languages in the school.
