British Prime Minister (PM) Boris Johnson has said that he was looking at what he could do to help and support India tackle the surge of fresh COVID-19 cases, reports The Economic Times.

Speaking to British media, PM Johnson described India as a great partner and said that Britain's measures to help India in this challenging hour could include providing ventilators or therapeutics.

Meanwhile, the administration in the United Kingdom (UK) has issued "red list" COVID-19 travel restrictions regarding India which bans the entry of travellers from India into the UK and makes it mandatory for British, Irish and long-term UK residents who wish to return home to undergo a compulsory 10-day hotel quarantine.

The administration took the decision after the Public Health England (PHE) confirmed 55 more cases of the so-called Indian variant (B.1.617) from all cases tracked till 14 April, taking the total such cases found in the UK to 132.
