Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon (85) passed away in Lucknow on Tuesday (22 July) after a prolonged illness. His son and UP minister Ashutosh Tandon confirmed the news.
Lalji Tandon was admitted to the Medanta hospital on 13 June after he complained of urinary problem and fever. He, thereafter, developed complications in liver and kidney and even underwent a surgical procedure.
He was put on ventilator later.
PM Modi has condoled Tandon's demise and said that he would be remembered for his untiring efforts to serve society.
"Shri Lalji Tandon will be remembered for his untiring efforts to serve society. He played a key role in strengthening the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. He made a mark as an effective administrator, always giving importance of public welfare. Anguished by his passing away," PM Modi said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the demise of Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon.
The state government has announced a three-day state mourning as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also expressed grief over Tandon's demise and said that his love for the nation and his contribution in country's development will be remembered forever.
