After the implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, the Chief Minister (CM) of Manipur N Biren Singh has said that the state will reach out to the Centre asking for NRC to be implemented in Manipur as well, reports The Hindu.
Interacting with the media persons on the sidelines of the North-East Development Alliance (NEDA) conclave in Guwahati, CM Singh said that the state cabinet has already passed a resolution in the support of an NRC being held in Manipur.
Further answering the questions about how NRC would be implemented in Manipur, CM Singh said, “It will be done through the central government. Assam is doing it under the supervision of the Supreme Court. So we are requesting the central government and it will be done by them.”
He also stressed that the Centre has been clear that no illegal immigrant will be allowed to stay anywhere in the country. “That is a very clear message,” he said.
