Multinational tech giants Microsoft have completed the acquisition process of ZeniMax media, which owns gaming studio Bethesda. Though the takeover was disclosed last year, they attained required regulatory approvals only recently.

This procurement is slated to enhance the collection of exclusive games that Microsoft offers on its Windows and Xbox consoles along with its subscription services like Xbox GamePass.

Vice President of gaming at Microsoft Phil Spencer said that acquiring ZeniMax is the next step that they have taken towards building an industry leading first party studios team.

“With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players,” Spencer wrote in a blog post.

Microsoft now appears to be turning the tables on Sony on this front.

Bethesda expects to have access to additional resources through the Microsoft acquisition. The company has previously developed high-profile games like Fallout, Wolfenstien, The Elder Scroll, Doom amongst others.

Pete Hines, Bethesda’s marketing head, claims that the game publishers will be inducting more of their games in Game Pass, reports Mint.

Though Microsoft has acquired Bethesda, the latter will continue to operate a separate company with its incumbent leadership. Meanwhile, the Bill Gates-owned establishment is set to own studios such as ID Software, MachineGames and Arkane that were controlled by Bethesda.
