Metro rail services in Navi Mumbai are likely to be opened up for the public soon, Deccan Herald reports.
The project is being implemented by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO).
On Friday, the Railway Board approved the rolling stock (coaches, electrical) of the Navi Mumbai metro.
“CIDCO has received the clearance of the Rolling Stock of Navi Mumbai metro from the Railway Board,” CIDCO’s senior executive Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee was quoted in a report by the aforementioned publication.
CIDCO is also developing four elevated routes under the Navi Mumbai metro project.
The first phase of this project stretches from Belapur to Pendhar. 11 stations are a part of this route that spans across 11 kilometers.
CIDCO has also appointed MahaMetro to give engineering assistance for the Belapur-Pendhar route.
However, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) will give a go-ahead to the Navi Mumbai metro only after successfully completing the inspection of the civil work.
