2019 witnessed the number of ceasefire violations from Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) rise to the highest figure in 16 years, reaching a total of 3,289 such instances, reports Economic Times.
The figure averaged to a total of nine such violations each day of the year. However it should be noted that a whopping 1,565 ceasefire violations took place post the month of August during which the Parliament had decided to de-operationalise the Article 370 of the Constitution and bisect the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (UTs).
Meanwhile, in the previous year of 2018, the number of ceasefire violations by Pakistan stood at 2,936 in which a total of 61 lives were lost, while over 250 persons where injured.
