Addressing the valedictory session of the three-day combined commanders' conference (CCC), Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi yesterday (6 March) underscored on the need for enhancing the indigenisation in the entire national security system, reports Times of India.

PM Modi reviewed the operational situation along the Pakistan and China fronts, and also looked into the progress achieved in the setting up of unified theatre commands in the nation.

PM Modi spelt out the "national security directive" for the 15-lakh personnel of the armed forces and also talked about the "strategic imperatives" being faced by the country. He emphasised on increasing self-reliance in the national security architecture, not just in terms of sourcing equipment and weapons, but also in various doctrines, procedures and customs practised in the armed forces.

PM Modi pushed the three forces to rid themselves of the legacy systems and practices which have outlived their utility and relevance, and asked them to develop into a "future force".

The conference involving the top brass of the three services was held at Kevadia in Gujarat.
