In recognition of his contributions to the domains of innovation and philanthropy, Tata Group's chairman emeritus Ratan Tata has been conferred with an honorary doctorate by the renowned University of Manchester, reports Hindu Businessline.

The prestigious honour was awarded to 82-years-old Tata by the United Kingdom (UK) based university recently when the university's president and vice-chancellor Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell was in India for a tour.

Further showering praises on Tata, Rothwell called him as an example for all, from big and small businesses and enterprises, to researchers and developers.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that Tata is also the recipient of two of India's highest civilian honours, the Padma Bhushan (2000) and Padma Vibhushan (2008).
