South Korean Foreign Minister Calls EAM Jaishankar, Expresses Regret Over Hyundai Issue

South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong on Tuesday (8 February) expressed regret for the offence caused to the people of India by the social media posts by Hyundai's Pakistani partner on the so called "Kashmir Solidarity Day".

The South Korean FM called External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday morning and discussed various bilateral and multilateral issues including the Hyundai matter.

In a statement, the External Affairs Ministry said that Chung conveyed that South Korea government "regretted the offence cause to the people and government of India" by the social media post.


Further, the ministry also summoned the South Korea's ambassador in India.

"The strong displeasure of the government on the unacceptable social media post was conveyed to him. It was highlighted that the matter concerned India's territorial integrity on which there could be no compromise," the MEA said in a statement.

"A statement was also issued by Hyundai Motors conveying its deep regret to the people of India and making it clear that it does not comment on the political or religous issues," the MEA statement said.
