In the last 36 hours, the number of those who have tested positive to Coid-19 has increased by 206, taking the total number of ones affected by the pandemic virus to 234. At least 210 of those who have tested positive for Coronavirus had attended the Aalami Mashwara event held in mid-March at the Nizamudding Markaz.

One person has succumbed to Covid-19, while six have recovered. The increasing number of Coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu has vaulted the State to the third-most affected on out of the total 1906 cases in the country.

The most number of cases for Tamil Nadu today were reported from Coimbatore with 20 persons affected, while 20 persons tested positive for pandemic in Theni district. As a result, at least a total of 160 Tablighi attendees from Tamil Nadu have tested positive so far.

Tamil Nadu has traced some 981 of the nearly 1500 who attended the Tablighi congregation. Besides, Tablighi Jamaat preachers from Indonesia and Thailand touring the State have left some people infected in Erode, Madurai and Salem district.


Two Thailand and four Indonesian visiting Tablighi Jamaat preachers have tested positive for Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu, among the worst-affected due to Tablighi Jamaat activities of visit the state and through contact at the Nizamuddin Banglewali masjid event that was held late in March.

Tamil Nadu officials are facing an uphill task of getting those who attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation to undergo screening as some of them have switched off their phones, while some are resisting.

A major drawback of the Tablighi Jamaat congregation and its members visit in the State is that the pandemic virus has spread to hinterlands.
