Amid the Trump administration's efforts to ban TikTok in the United States over national security concerns, Kevin Mayer, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Chinese short video sharing platform, has resigned from the post.

Mayer's resignation comes months after his appointment as TikTok's CEO, reports CNBC.

Mayer, a former Disney executive who helped oversee the successful global launch of the US company's new Disney+ platform, was appointed as the CEO of the TikTok in May this year.

The development comes after Trump administration's pressure on the ByteDance to sell TikTok's business in US or face a ban as its ties with China make it a national security threat.

According to the report, Microsoft and Oracle are in the competition to acquire TikTok's US business from ByteDance.
