Speaking in a no holds barred fashion, United States (US)' President Joseph Biden yesterday (21 March) pressed that the nation was battling the problems of racism, xenophobia and nativism, reports Hindustan Times.

President Biden's assertion against the "ugly poisons" of "systemic racism and white supremacy" came after Vice President Kamala Harris expressed similar concerns and said, "Racism is real in America and it has always been." Harris had also added, "Xenophobia is real in America and always has been. Sexism too."

Speaking on the occasion of the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination which was instituted in the 1970s to mark a 1960 massacre in South Africa, President Biden said, "Hate can have no safe harbour in America. It should have no safe harbour anywhere in the world. We must join together to make it stop."

Emphasising that it is a must for the US to change the laws that enable discrimination, President Biden said, "One of the core values and beliefs that should bring us together as Americans is standing against hate and racism, even as we acknowledge that systemic racism and white supremacy are ugly poisons that have long plagued the United States."
