In a positive development towards the realisation of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's call to turn India into a major toy manufacturing hub, Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has received a total of 92 applications from domestic toy manufacturers to set up units at the toy manufacturing industrial hub which is to come up near the upcoming international airport at Jewar, reports Economic Times.

This also comes as a boost to the government's push towards the building of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat as currently imports from China and Taiwan alone account for 90 per cent of the domestic toy market.

Under the scheme, a total of 100 acres of land spread across 155 plots of different sizes will be awarded to manufacturers within the next 15 days, following which the state government expects an investment of up to Rs 3,000 crore. Also, once fully operational, it is expected to generate employment opportunities for many people.

It should be noted that noted toy manufacturing majors like FunZoo, Ankit toys, Toy Treasurers and Funride have applied for plots under the scheme.
