Over the past four years, Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government has successfully electrified over 1.21 lakh hamlets having a population of 250 and above, reports Economic Times.
As a result of the push by the state government under the Centre's "Power for All" agenda, the number of newly-electrified villages rose from 1.28 lakh in 2017 to 2.49 lakh in 2021.
It should be noted that this is in addition to the over 1.2 crore consumers, mainly in rural areas, who have been provided free electricity connections under Saubhagya Scheme. Also, UP has emerged as the top state by providing the highest number of electricity connections under the Saubhagya Scheme in the country.
"The aim is to provide adequate power supply to villages. We are ensuring equitable distribution of electricity to all areas," Sharma was quoted as saying.
Besides, the state in last four years has seen the number of registered electricity connections surge by a robust 63 per cent, from 1.8 crore to 2.93 crore.
