A three-judge Bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Indu Malhotra, and Ajay Rastogi of the Supreme Court on Wednesday (24 February) gave their verdict regarding the provision of extra attempt to the aspirants of Civil Services Exam (CSE) who have completed their last attempt in 2020 amid COVID19 pandemic.

The apex court has dismissed the petition seeking another shot at the prestigious examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducted to recruit the personnel for All India and Central services, reports LiveMint.

The petitioner had sought an extra chance for candidates who have exhausted their number of attempts but were otherwise eligible for appearing in CSE - 2021 citing difficulties created by COVID19 pandemic and the national lockdown.

On the other hand, reportedly the result for the Main examination will be declared in February 2021, within the next few days. The Main examination consists of nine papers, all subjective. Each paper consists of close to 20 questions. Therefore, checking the copies is a formidable task which requires time.

After being postponed from October 2020, the UPSC Civil Services (Main) Examination was conducted a month back in January 2021.
