The construction of the ambitious Ganga Expressway project of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has received the Environmental Clearance (EC) from the UP's state-level environmental impact assessment committee.

As per the Union Ministry of Environment's notification - 2006, obtaining environment clearance for the projects covered under the schedule is mandatory. Based on the notification, the UPEIDA has obtained the EC for the Ganga Expressway project.


The proposed Ganga Expressway will be around 594 km long, a 6-lane wide (expandable to eight lanes) greenfield expressway. The expressway will pass through 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh, namely (from west to east) Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahar, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.

Recently, the UP government received the sanction letter of a Rs 5,100 crore loan for the Ganga Expressway project from the Punjab National Bank (PNB).
