Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has announced the opening of a school for meritorious students. This school, Rawat said, will provide free education to the children of lower income families who cannot afford education due to financial constraints.

Children who are interested in applying will have to qualify the state-level entrance test, which will be conducted for admission to the school.

The school will have classes from standard 6 to 12.

Rawat was addressing students during Uttarakhand Government’s e-Samvad programme. He said: “The candidates will have to clear a state-level entrance test for admission into this school which will have Classes 6 to 12.”

He shared his plans -- of opening a national law college, a residential science college that would provide post-graduate studies and research.

Opening a skill development college in the state is one of his aims. He stressed on the commitment of the government led by him for achieving quality in higher education.

Rawat gave the example of a student from Chamoli. This particular student has been selected for admission in the London School of Arts. The CM Told the students about the arrangements for this student's education by the state government.

Rawat added that students must draw inspiration from former president A P J Abdul Kalam. "He went to Rishikesh, took the guidance of a saint and grew up to become one of the country's top scientists and later its president. He said that Kalam wasn't disheartened by the rejection faced at an interview for a job in the armed forces.

Rawat added that students must choose the career they want, but the choice should go on to do something for India, and this should be their ultimate goal in life.

He cited the inspiring example of an IAS officer in the state who was earlier working as a labourer.

He said that patriotism is the best of all human virtues.
