Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj
Following the face-off with China in Ladakh Valley and the nationwide calls for boycott of Chinese companies and products, the Uttarakhand tourism department has decided to "reconsider" contracts with Chinese companies.
Satpal Maharaj, state tourism minister, has directed one of the top officials to 'make a list of all the projects in which China is involved in any manner’, this report says.
Maharaj has said that with the Centre under PM Narendra Modi banning TikTok, the same cannot be ruled in the sphere of tourism and for Chinese companies involved in tourism projects.
Maharaj is quoted as saying: “After what happened in Galwan Valley and amid the efforts of our country to decrease our dependency on China, I have directed the tourism secretary to make a list of all the projects in which China is involved. Once it is done, we will reconsider all contracts or agreements with them (sic).”
The state tourism department will share the developments on this front with the Centre.
