Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Tuesday (17 October) in Hubballi that a Vande Bharat high-speed train will soon connect Dharwad and Bengaluru.

He spoke in response to a plea by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi.

Vaishnaw spoke at the opening of the renovated Dharwad Railway Station. He said that its entire route would need to be electrified.

The service will begin shortly after electrification is complete.

“Work is on and it is expected to be completed by February-March 2023. Once that happens, the high-speed train can run on the line,” he said, reports The Hindu.

The Vande Bharat Express train project, which began in 2019 with just two trains, will soon have 75 trains.

While the first Vande Bharat train was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pressed into service for Varanasi from the capital, the second rake is operational between New Delhi-Katra.

The two trains have already travelled 18 lakh km.

The third Vande Bharat with improved amenities is currently running in the Mumbai-Gandhinagar sector.

Vaishnaw said that the Vande Bharat Express is a state-of-the-art train with cutting-edge amenities that will significantly save journey time.

The train has the ability to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 52 seconds.
