The ship, which was carrying steel coils as cargo, was stranded amid the inclement weather as its engine was non-operational due to fuel contamination.
According to a Defence Ministry statement, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai received information from DG Communication center on Wednesday afternoon that MV Kanchan is stranded due to contamination in fuel thereby rendering the engine non-operational and no electrical power onboard, amid inclement weather.
The MRCC Mumbai instantly activated the International Safety Net (ISN) and ICG's MV Hermeez was immediately diverted towards the distressed vessel, it added.
