With the highest single-day spike of 14,933 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 440,215, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Tuesday (23 June).
According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 178,014 are active cases while at least 248,190 people have been cured of the disease.
The number of Covid-19 death toll in the country has increased from Wednesday's 13,699 to 14,011, an increase of 312 in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 135,796 cases, including 6,283 fatalities, and 67,706 recoveries. The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 62,000-mark with as many as 62,655 cases recorded so far, second-highest tally in the country. Tamil Nadu followed with 62,087 cases. Gujarat has reported 27,825 cases so far.
States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (2,233), Gujarat (1,684), Tamil Nadu (794), West Bengal (569), Uttar Pradesh (569), and Madhya Pradesh (521).
States with more than 10,000 cases are Uttar Pradesh (18,322), Rajasthan (15,232), West Bengal (14,358), Madhya Pradesh (12,078) and Haryana (11,025).
Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Karnataka (9,399), Andhra Pradesh (9,372), Telangana (8,674), Bihar (7,825), Jammu and Kashmir (6,088), Assam (5,586), Odisha (5,303), Punjab (4,235), Kerala (3,310), Uttarakhand (2,402), Chhattisgarh (2,303) and Jharkhand (2,137).
According to the Health Ministry, 8,015 cases are being re-assigned to states.
