15 Crore Loans Worth Rs 4.78 Lakh Crores Awarded To Women Under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana: Govt Tells In LS

Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur informed the Parliament on Tuesday (11 February) that over 15 crore loans amounting to a total of Rs 4.78 lakh crores had been disbursed to women borrowers under the government of India's Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), reports Asian News International (ANI).

A major chunk of these loans have been awarded to residents hailing from three states, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Karnataka. People belonging to Tamil Nadu have received a total of Rs 58,227.47 crore under the programme, while the same figure for West Bengal and Karnataka stands at Rs 55,232.19 crore and Rs 47,714.04 crore.

Thakur also informed the parliament that the residents from Union Territories received the lowest amount of loans under the programme with Daman and Diu taking away Rs 10.28 crore, Andaman and Nicobar Islands taking away Rs 94.80 crore and Lakshadweep taking away Rs 5.07 crore.

PMMY facilitates loans for manufacturing, processing, trading, services and activities relevant to agriculture which aid employment generation. The programme was launched as a flagship initiative of the Modi government on 8 April 2015.
